Mrs. Mattie Baker Grady, at the age of 95, in the late evening hours of Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, left the comforts of her “little home,” to go be with her Lord and Saviour and to dwell in her heavenly mansion that He had prepared just for her. She was known as Granny to nearly everyone.
Loved ones she leaves behind include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Grady Langston and Paul S. Langston of Mount Olive, Susan Grady Lewis and Freddie Lewis, also of Mount Olive, and Renee Grady Sutton and Lane Sutton, of Dudley; six grandchildren, Michael Langston and wife, Amy, Jamie Langston and wife, Dana, Ashley Lewis Locklear, Kelly Lewis Brock and husband, Brandon, Ethan James Sutton, and Abby Lane Sutton; and eight great-grandchildren, Taylor, Mitchell, Megan, and Jonathan Langston, Kaydynce and Willow Locklear, and Braydon and Mattie Grace Brock. Being the matriarch of her fifth generation family, she was blessed to briefly be a part of the life of her first great-great-grandchild, Brantley Boutin. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, including a niece with whom she was vital in her upbringing, Phyllis Wilbourn. She also leaves behind her beloved feline companions, Taboe and Blackie.
She now joins in death her husband, James Henry Grady; their son, Toby Allen Grady; a nephew raised as a son, Danny Williams; her parents, John Allen and Vennie Anderson Baker; sisters, Ethel B. Williams and Melba Baker; and brothers, Russell, Bill, Dewey, and George Baker.
The life of Mrs. Mattie Grady was celebrated in a worship service held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26, at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Mount Olive where she was a faithful member. Officiating was Pastor Jeffrey Dail. Interment followed in Maplewood Cemetery. It is suggested that memorials be made to First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 130 Ed Edmundson Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365.
She loved us all, and we loved her “A bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck…”
May she sweetly rest in the arms of Jesus.
This was a Tyndall service.
