Man charged after leaving his kids to go to work

A Mount Olive man faces four counts of misdemeanor child abuse for not providing adult supervision for children while he went to work.

On May 3, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a 7-year-old child and his younger brother, a 2-year-old, were left alone at their home without any supervision. When deputies arrived at the home, they made contact with the two children and began looking for the parent who wasn’t there.

Authorities called Wayne County Social Services.

Deputies say they observed non-life threatening injuries to the younger child and requested assistance from EMS. EMS responded and saw the child for his injuries.

Investigators say they learned this wasn’t the only time they had been left alone at the home.

Deputies arrested 52-year-old Ali Abdullah Mohamed Al-Abbad, of Grantham School Road, and charged him with four counts of misdemeanor child abuse. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.
