Locals searching for help with feral cat colony

Posted

There is a colony of feral cats hanging around on the campus of the University of Mount Olive and a few locals want to help these cats continue to be fed and possibly find a home.

A group of locals have consistently fed the cats during their free time, but early on were met with some resistance about feeding the cats on the university’s property. Messages between officials and the group of locals have improved over time and they equally acknowledged miscommunication between the administration and the group, especially since there is a professor by the name of Linda Holland-Toll who is in charge of the feral cat program at the university. Messages included details such as hopefully partnering in an effort to give these cats the support that they need.

With both sides finally being on the same page, going forward there may be some sort of organization aimed toward helping the stray cats.

“There are other colonies around Mount Olive that need help as well,” said local Kimberly Puckett. “By increasing awareness of these colonies, I really hope we can move forward with things that will improve their lives.”
