Kids Speak At The Black History Parade

Why is Black History Month important?

Richard Perez

“Black History Month is important because it was the month where segregation was over and it was when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have A Dream Speech.”

Jorge Perez

“Because everyone is equally made, it doesn’t matter what race you are, it’s all about equality and we should respect each and so it’s good that black history is being highlighted.”

Xiana Ingram

“Because we learn about our people, things our people went through and usually we don’t learn much about it.”

Mercedes Millner

“Because we learn about our heritage and it gives us a sense of pride.”

Nykeya Lee

“It’s important because some kids don’t know what black history is so it’s great we get a whole month to learn.”

David Reed

“It’s important because people need to learn about what Dr. Martin Luther King and Harriet Tubman did for us.”
