GOLDSBORO – A new course presented a challenge, but North Duplin’s country cross runners handled it well Friday afternoon.

Senior Noel Rangel finished second with a time of 20 minutes, 20 seconds during the boys’ portion of a Carolina 1A Conference meet contested at the picturesque Bryan Multi-Sports Complex.

Sister and sophomore Judith Rangel ended up 14th in 38:37.

“I was pleased with how we performed,” said ND head coach Kody Kennedy. “We had a couple of personal-best times [today]. The kids show up and practice hard every day. They’re a great group of kids to coach.

“They have positive attitudes and are easy to work with.”

Genaro Pacheco, Ben Bullard, Luke Holland and Christian Lopez crossed the line sixth through ninth, respectively. Pacheco finished in 22:54. Ballard posted a time of 24:00. Holland ran the 5k course in 26:14 with Lopez 12 seconds behind.

Hobbton’s Victor Lane took first in 20:18. Teammate Alex Jones secured third place in 21:00.

On the girls’ side, Rosewood dominated as usual.

Jaylee Amy took first in 24:43.

Judith Rangel and teammate Valentina Kines logged times of 38:37 and 34:08, respectively.

Lakewood also competed in the meet.
