A deluge of rain Thursday created havoc with the town of Mount Olive’s sewer system.
The town experienced a sanitary sewer overflow in excess of 390,000 gallons. At 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, the spill was discovered and was ongoing as of Friday. This spill was the result of a four-inch rainfall within an eight hour period due to severe storms in the area, according to a release from the town.
The Division of Water Quality was notified of the spill on Friday.
