The annual Mount Olive Christmas Parade this year will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7.
Sponsored by the Mount Olive Area Chamber of Commerce, the long-awaited celebration begins at 10 a.m.
Chamber President Julie Beck said parade applications are now available at the Chamber office at 123 N. Center St. They can also be obtained at www.moachamber.com.
The deadline for applications is Nov. 15 and entries received after that will be assessed a late fee of $30.
“As always, a homemade float competition will be held, and first, second, and third place winners will be recognized,” Beck said.
In addition, she said there will be a fire truck competition, and only one winner will be named.
Beck said there is no entry fee for fire trucks, but they must contact the Chamber office to sign up at 919-658-3113.
A grand marshal for the parade has not been named yet.
The selectee will be named at a later date by a committee of Chamber members and Mount Olive residents.
She said nominations are currently being sought for a grand marshal, and application forms are available at the Chamber office or online.
To be a grand marshal, the candidate must volunteer and give back to the community, but show no signs of personal gain in doing so; deserve credit for good deeds, although he or she may not always be recognized for them; and be an inspiration toward making Mount Olive a better place to live work and play. The marshal must also reside in Mount Olive or the surrounding area.
The deadline for submitting a nomination for parade grand marshal is Nov. 15.
