Seniors Felecity Havens and Jamaal Matin along with junior Jada Bacchus and freshman Michael Brown were acknowledged by Conference Carolinas for their work on the hardwood this season.
Havens was named the 2019 Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and also received a spot on the All-Conference first team. 2019 was Havens’ second consecutive year being named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Year. Coming in as a transfer, Felecity will leave as the Mount Olive Women’s Basketball leading scorer with 2,054 points and she is the first UMO women’s basketball player to surpass 2,000 points.
She was joined by her teammate and childhood best friend Jada Bacchus on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference team. Bacchus was named to the 2019 all-conference third team, and she played a huge role for the Trojans this year leading the team in field goal percentage, rebounds, assists, steals, and she is tied with Havens for first in blocks. Bacchus recorded her 600th point and 500th rebound in the same game this past season.
For the second year in a row, senior Jamaal Matin ends his season being awarded the Conference Carolinas Defensive Player of the Year and this year he was awarded a spot on the All-Conference first team. Matin had an outstanding season leading the Trojans in 13 different categories and he will go down in history as the first back-to-back defensive player of the year in Mount Olive Men’s Basketball history.
Freshman Michael Brown came in and quickly contributed for the Trojans as he started every game at point guard for the Trojans this season. Brown led Mount Olive in assists, assists per game, and he even led the conference for most of the season. Brown’s future is bright with the Trojans as he finished second in points and steals, and even contributed on the boards finishing fourth on the team with 111 rebounds this season.
