No public fireworks displays are planned this Fourth of July in Mount Olive, but the town will still celebrate Independence Day with free food and entertainment at Westbrook Park.
The Exchange Club of Mount Olive will present its annual Fourth of July in the Park from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at 210 Westbrook St.
Linda Tyson, president of the Mount Olive club, says the event will feature live entertainment, bingo games, free pizza, free hot dogs, free watermelon and free drinks and ice cream.
“Everything there is free,” she said. “This is our Fourth of July community event. We hope that people will come out and enjoy their afternoon.”
The event is open to the public.
A local Jaycees chapter used to present the fireworks in Mount Olive each July, but the displays ended when the group disbanded, according to town officials.
