Early morning crash sends three to hospital

A two-vehicle accident occurred early this morning at the intersection of John Street and Martin Street in Mount Olive that sent three people to the hospital to be checked out for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

Mount Olive firefighters and Wayne County EMS station 9 responded to a motor vehicle crash involving red and silver SUVs about a block east of Mount Olive Middle School. Two people from the red SUV and one from the silver SUV were taken to the Hospital in Goldsboro by EMS station 9 medic personnel to be checked out for further injuries.

Law Enforcement officer on the scene said according to a witness following the vehicle and saw the crash, "the silver SUV was heading North on Martin Street and the red SUV was heading west on John Street toward the school when the accident happened at the intersection." The silver SUV failed to obey a stop sign and crashed into the driver side door of the red SUV causing it to flip onto its side.

By the time the Fire and EMS arrived on the scene all of the people involved had exited both vehicles. Mount Olive Police are investigating the traffic accident. The intersection was closed for about an hour while fire and EMS clean up the aftermath of the wreck.
