Dudley man faces sex abuse charges

A Dudley man has been placed in Wayne County Jail under a $500,000 bond after he was accused of improper sexual conduct with a minor.

Authorities charged 42-year-old Terrance Levon Darden, 110 Clint Drive, with seven counts of statutory sex with a child 15-years-old, one count of statutory sex offense with a child by an adult and one count of indecent liberties with a child.

Detective Scott Peele with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said investigators were first alerted to an inappropriate relationship, which was sexual in nature between the defendant and a 15-year-old female juvenile in May of 2019.

He said the department’s Special Victims Unit was notified and began an investigation.

“During the course of the investigation it was learned that other juveniles may have been sexually assaulted,” he said.

The charges were filed after a thorough investigation, which included multiple interviews with possible victims, as well as witnesses, and processing of potential evidence at the North Carolina State Crime Lab.
