Darden faces opposition in election

Mount Olive Mayor Joe Scott and the five members of the town board all seek reelection, and only one is facing opposition.

District 1 Commissioner Vicky Darden, who seeks her second term on the board, is being opposed by Morning Drive resident Andrade Oliver.

Oliver is involved with the Carver Cultural Center Community Enhancement program headed by Danny King.

This is his first effort in seeking a seat on the town board.

The General Election is set for Nov. 5.

Other than opposition for Darden, who seeks her second term, incumbents have no opposition at this time.

They are: At-Large Commissioner Steve Wiggins, District 2 Commissioner Harlie Carmichael, District 3 Commissioner Barbara Kornegay, and District 4 Commissioner Dennis Draper.

Scott is also seeking his second term.

The mayor and the entire board all filed for re-election on opening day, July 5.

Candidates can file at the Wayne County Board of Elections office at 309 E. Chestnut St. in Goldsboro on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The final day of filing, July 19, concludes at noon.
