GOLDSBORO - The Wayne County Health Department reported two COVID-19 related deaths this past week.

Two individuals in their early 70s died June 19 and June 21. Each had underlying medical conditions, but neither death was associated with a congregate or long-term care facility.

The county’s death toll is now 25.

As of Friday, a total of 1,720 total positive cases of coronavirus have been reported to WCHD. Less than 100 of those cases are attributed to congregate living facilities and nearly 1,200 are cases from outside of any type of congregate facility.

All offenders at Neuse Correctional Institute who tested positive for COVID-19 have now recovered, according to the North Carolina Department of Safety.

There are approximately 499 coronavirus cases currently active in Wayne County.

WCHD continues to provide daily updates to case numbers via a dashboard at www.waynegov.com/coronavirus. New information has been added to show trends in new cases, active cases and hospitalizations.

Statewide numbers are 57,183 total cases with 1,290 deaths and 891 hospitalizations.
