CoSIDA honors UMO’s Azeez

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Australia native and University of Mount Olive student-athlete Tobi Azeez was named to the 2021-22 Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Team, announced by CoSIDA.

A senior volleyball player, Azeez compiled a 3.98 grade-point average (GPA) as a biology major. He helped lead the Trojans to the 2022 Conference Carolinas tournament final and earned third-team All-CC recognition.

Named the conference’s Elite 23 Award recipient, Azeez cranked out 205 kills and posted a .316 attack percentage. He logged a team-best 16 service aces, picked up 71 digs and had 24 blocks.

Azeez posted double-digit kills in 11 of 16 matches he played, and recorded 20 kills twice against in-state rival Belmont Abbey.

UMO concluded the year 16-7 overall after a 2-3 start that included consecutive road losses at perennial NCAA powerhouse Brigham Young University.
