Cliffs of the Neuse State Park family campground getting upgrades

Group camping primitive sites still open

The family campground at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is going through some big changes. Construction of a new bathhouse is currently underway. The previous building has been demolished after serving campers since the family campground was built more than 50 years ago. Park staff are looking forward to the completed building and the improved camping experience it will provide.

The construction project started on Feb. 18, and while there is no current completion date, the project is speculated to be finished in the fall. Project updates will be announced on the park website.

The updated bathhouse will be larger and offer more features than its predecessor. It will be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations accessible and include men’s, women’s and family facilities. Also added will be a new ADA accessible parking lot and sidewalk. The bathhouse will serve all 34 sites in the family campground, of which one campsite and one cabin are ADA accessible.

The family campground is currently closed due to construction and will remain closed until the project is completed. The closure includes campsites, cabins and the dumping station. Sections of trails connecting to the campground are also closed and are marked as such. Park visitors are asked not to enter the area for safety. Campsites and cabins will be unavailable for rental for the duration of the closure.

For other camping options at the Cliffs, the group campground is open year round. This campground has four large sites that hold up to 35 persons a piece and feature primitive amenities. Each site has a campfire ring, and access to a water spigot, trash cans and latrine toilets. Group campsites are available only by reservation. Reservations can be made online at northcarolinastateparks.reserveamerica.com or over the phone at 1-877-722-6762.

In other campground news, there has been a statewide price increase for rentable state park facilities. Per night family campground nonelectric sites cost $26 and electric sites cost $33. Group campground sites cost $83. Cabins are $58 and feature heat, air conditioning, electricity and drinking water. The changes were effective April 1.

Cliffs of the Neuse State Park is located at 240 Park Entrance Road, Seven Springs. For questions regarding these changes, the park office can be reached at 919-778-6234.
