The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is hunting for an armed man accused of shooting a clerk during a robbery at the Family Dollar in Dudley Friday night.
Deputies were dispatched to the store on U.S. Highway 117 South in the Mar Mac community in reference to an armed robbery and shooting around 10 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies say they found one of the store clerks had been shot during the robbery. Patrol officers, with the use of a K-9, ran a track of the suspect south from the store but could not locate the armed robber.
The clerk was transported from the scene by EMS to Wayne UNC Hospital for treatment where she is listed in good, stable condition, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office. The thief is described as a black man, standing approximately 5-feet-9-inches to 5-feet-11-inches tall, with a slim build and short dreads. He was seen wearing a black hoodie, dark pants, a white under shirt and white tennis shoes and was using a dark-colored bandanna to cover his face, according to the release; he was armed with a small-caliber handgun.
The name of the victim has not yet been released.
