Black history service Sunday
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 3414 Summerlin Road, Mount Olive, will observe Black History Month in a special service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, with Commissioner Jessie H. Ladson of Duplin County. The pastor, Rev. James A. Davis, will deliver the sermon. The St. Luke church choir will provide the music. The public is invited to attend.
‘Last Word in Lonesome is Me’ Sunday
Outlaw’s Bridge Universalist Church, 4408 N.C. Highway 111 N., Seven Springs, will host “The Last Word in Lonesome is Me” by the Rev. Claudia M. Frost at 11 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9. This will continue the church’s sermon series on negative or difficult emotions, exploring the rise of loneliness and isolation in the 21st century. The church will also host its monthly live music concert featuring Duke Ladd on piano with Bill Perks on saxophone, accompanied by Jimmy Merritt at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13. The public is invited to attend.
Church to honor anniversary
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, 3414 Summerlin Road, Mount Olive, will celebrate its anniversary at 3 p.m. Feb. 23 with Rev. Braxton Frederick and the Hines Chapel FWB Church in Warsaw.
