The town of Mount Olive plans to seek a federal Community Development Block Grant of up to $750,000 for impoverished neighborhood improvements.
The community revitalization program application must be submitted no later than July 27.
Currently, the town is seeking a project grant administrator to carry out the program.
Town Manager Charles Brown said once a project administrator is hired, a series of public hearings will be scheduled.
Town officials said community input will be sought in deciding where and what type of improvement programs are needed.
Community Development Block Grant funds are generally aimed at improving poverty-stricken areas. Brown said approximately 85 houses in the town have been identified as in need of improvement.
The project will last approximately 30 months.
