Calypso community coming together to fight cancer

Members of the Calypso community are holding a barbecue fundraiser Dec. 7 to help three families recently affected by cancer.

The disease robbed one family of Cristy Marie Holloman on Oct. 20. She was 45 when she died.

Proceeds from the barbecue sale will assist her family in paying expenses and will also be used to help Milton “Blossom” Holloman and Darren Myers, who are battling cancer.

The fundraiser will be held at the Calypso Fire Department from 4 p.m. until everything is sold out on Dec. 7.

Drive-thru and eat-in options will be offered. Barbecue will be sold for $8 a plate. A silent auction will be held at the event from 4 to 6 p.m. and $20 raffle tickets are being sold for the chance to win $1,000. Organizers are asking that the public pick up tickets by contacting Kim Anderson at 919-738-5853. The goal is to sell at least 2,000 plates.
