Bomb threat shuts down middle school

Coats-Erwin Middle School was on lockdown Thursday morning due to a bomb threat, according to the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office.

Students and staff were evacuated from the school as K9 officers searched the property.

A search of the property uncovered no bomb as of 10 a.m., but officers from the Harnett County Sheriff's Office, state capitol police and Fort Bragg's Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit continued to search the scene as of 10:30 a.m.

Parents were picking up students from a field behind the school as of 10:15 a.m.

The bomb scare comes one week after another threat shut down the Harnett County Courthouse on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
