Bobby Ray Kelly, 81


MOUNT OLIVE — Bobby Ray Kelly, 81, well-known resident and businessman, passed away early Wednesday morning, April 15, 2020, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Private services were held, and was officiated by Pastor Ronnie Wise with Grandson Danny Lampron sharing remarks. Memorial gifts may be made to Cures for the Colors, c/o Southeastern Cancer Center, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro NC 27534.

Mr. Kelly had served his country and state through his service in the United States Army and the North Carolina National Guard. His town and community he served with dedication and diligence as a member of Mount Olive Rescue Squad with which he was a volunteer for over 30 years of service and was awarded a life membership. He had been the civil preparedness coordinator for the Town of Mount Olive, was a special deputy with Wayne County Sheriff’s Department with 25 years of service, and was an auxiliary officer with Mount Olive Police Department, and was instrumental in the implementation of the 911 emergency response system in Wayne County.

A member of Unity Baptist Church of Mount Olive, he was faithful with his presence, his devotion, and his benevolence.

Mr. Kelly was an ardent businessman. With the establishment of Kelly’s Little Mart Inc., it became the parent of many other business entities, including the operation of Phillips 66 Service Station, the Giddings Ice Plant, a grocery store, Mount Olive Hardware, Kelly’s Fish Market and egg sales, Kelly’s Trucking, Kelly’s Wrecker Service, and Kelly’s Embroidery Shop.

Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Patterson Kelly; their son, Anthony Ray Kelly; his parents, Ed and Lillie Herring Kelly; a sister, Nancy Brock and husband, Earl; brothers, Harvey Kelly, and Sam Kelly and wife, Faye; brothers-in-law, Donald Hall and Wayne Edwards; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Madison; and a sister-in-law, Helen Hinson and husband Brantley.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Rochelle Worth Kelly; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis K. and Billy Tucker, and Wendy K. and Harvey Stroud; and a daughter-in-law, Casey T. Kelly, all of Mount Olive; grandchildren, Danny Lampron and wife, Amy, of Mount Olive, Phillip Lampron and wife, Lauren of Tarboro, Emily Kelly of Mount Olive, Tyler Kelly and wife Melissa, of Seven Springs, Kelly Stroud, Kimberly Stroud and Rhyleah Kelly, all of Mount Olive, Jessica Diaz and Danielle Tucker; great-grandchildren, Cuyler Grantham, Jude Lampron, Luca Lampron, Natalie Diaz, Corde` Williams, Eliana Roman and Baby Kelly who is “on the way.” Two sisters, Sadie K. Edwards of Seven Springs and Nellie K. Hall of Dudley; and an aunt, Ruth Lockamy, also survive.

Included as survivors as well, are his stepchildren and their spouses, Chris and Brandi Worth, Karen and Jesse Hunt, Christy and Freddie Holloman, and Greg and Tracy Rose; stepgrandchildren, Turner, Isaac, Austin, Hunter, Justin and wife, Lauren, Courtney and husband, Zachary, Autom, Breanna, and Toby; stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryan and Grayleigh; a sister-in-law, Barbara Marquez and friend, Frank Epley; and his current business employees, Dexter Arnette and Larry Beaman.
