Contractors can submit bids on the town’s wastewater treatment project beginning Oct. 28.
The bidding process will remain open for 30 days, according to Jammie Royall, interim town manager for Mount Olive.
The $5.5 million project involves removal of a tree farm, and replacing and updating equipment inside the facility. Royall said the job will take approximately one year to complete from its start date.
“This will really be an historic event for our town and we are hopeful it will lift the moratorium we are under right now,” Royall said. “I am hoping that we will be off the moratorium or close to it by the time the work is completed or before.
“There are some other things we have to do, such as inflow and infiltration improvements.”
Once the project is completed, Royall will request state authorities to lift the town’s moratorium.
