ARC sets up blood drives in Wayne County

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The American Red Cross encourages donors to band together to provide hope and healing to patients fighting cancer by either giving blood or platelets.

In appreciation, those who donate between Oct. 15 and Nov. 11 will receive a $5 Amazon gift card via email, courtesy of Suburban Propane.

The ARC is also offering a $1,000 gift card to five lucky winners. More details are available at

Seven donation sites have been set up in Wayne County:

  • Oct. 15 - First Pentecostal Church Student Ministries, Goldsboro, from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.;
  • Oct. 23 - Stoney Creek Church, 1:30-6 p.m.;
  • Oct. 26 - Seven Springs Fire Department, 1:30-6 p.m.;
  • Oct. 27 - Train Depot, Mount Olive, 1:30-6 p.m.;
  • Oct. 29 - Beautancus Community Building, 3-7 p.m.;
  • Oct. 30 - Berkeley Mall, Goldsboro, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.;
  • Oct. 30 - Pike’s Crossroad Pentecostal Church, Pikeville, 1:30-6 p.m.

Each ARC blood drive and donation center follows high standards of safety and infection control. Additional precautions — temperature checks, social distancing and face coverings for donors and staff — have been implemented to help prevent infection from COVID-19.

ARC is testing blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. The test may indicate if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to the virus, which could help current COVID-19 patients in need of convalescent plasma transfusions.

Donors are asked to schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-733-2767 or visiting prior to arriving at the drive, and are required to wear a face covering or mask.
