Gunfire and police response in a Mount Olive residential area ended with a man hit and another in jail on a variety of charges.

The April 1 incident resulted in charges of attempted first degree murder, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Officers who responded to the call said the victim was 21-year-old Anthony Maurice Owens of 1008 South Church Street. He suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Investigation resulted in charges being filed against 37-year-old Bobby Ray McFadden of 174 Oakley Branch Lane in Warsaw. His bond was set at $250,000. McFadden was arrested shortly after the shooting in an area of County Road. The .22 caliber handgun alleged to have been used in the shooting was confiscated.

Officers said their investigation revealed the shooting occurred as the result of a confrontation between the victim and the accused. The police report did not specify whether the gunshot wound was life threatening or not.
