Plans for the third annual Get Your Bark On program have been finalized, and will feature a wide variety of activities and entertainment for all ages. It will be held (rain or shine) on Saturday, April 22 starting at 11 a.m. at Westbrook Park. The fundraising project is sponsored jointly by WOOFF (Welfare of Our Furry Friends) and the Mount Olive Recreation and Parks Department.

The number of participants has increased each year, said WOOFF President Sherry Davis. She said she is hopeful this year’s program will attract the “biggest crowd yet.” “This is a great way to get the whole family active and spend the day together,” said Ms. Davis.

The Bark On program consists of a dog walk and family fun in the park. The walk begins at 11 a.m. and includes a one- and a three-mile route (participant’s choice). Early bird registration fee (by March 31) is $15. Ms. Davis said early bird registration can be paid by cash, check, or money order. Checks should be made payable to Welfare of Our Furry Friends. Registration after March 31 is $20 and on event day will be accepted as cash only.

The event will feature the popular pickle train that will be running after the walk at a cost of $1 per ride. Ms. Davis said the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department K- 9 team has been invited. The Wayne County Humane Society has also been invited to hold a spray/neuter certification clinic. Animal vendors will be present and line dancing has also been scheduled, along with doggie games and contests with prizes to be awarded to participants.

Ms. Davis said WOOFF will also have event t-shirts on sale, and dogs up for adoption. All proceeds go to the two sponsoring groups.

WOOFF will also hold its annual spring yard sale on Saturday, March 18 from 9 a.m. until noon at 711 Northwest Center Street.
